In one of Seagal’s direct to video movies, which he also wrote, there’s a scene which perfectly captures how Seagal sees himself. He stops being a mercenary for a moment to play chess with a wise old man. It’s over as soon as it started, when in a close up of the wise old man, he says : “Only a brilliant strategist could beat me in one move.”
Terrific video, but it's important to note that the negativity surrounding Seagal is mainly self-inflicted. Seagal has told countless stories that collapse under the weight of even a modicum of research. The evidence suggests that Seagal is a serial fabricator, so his denials of being abusive to women and stuntmen carry no legitimate weight.

The guy is simply a narcissist! People with this personality disorder, do everything they can to appear, or look bigger, better, and more important than they really are. If he hadn't achieved notoriety as a movie star, he would be just another narcissist like so many others! This is Steven Segal!
I've always loved that clip at the very end. His ridiculous pronunciation of "buddha" and the fact that he was definitely on the verge of throwing up while telling that story make it a classic.

When I was younger I used to really appreciate this guy but that was being young and ignorant as to who he really was. I remember joining an Aikido dojo and the Sensei there had no respect for Steven Seagal at which time I didn't really understand. But in this day I clearly understand
Master Seagal is a complicated man. It takes years to master the art of Horse Shit. He is so committed even though someone literally choked him till he shit his pants and backed down from a real fight with Van Dam he still claims to be the best..
He went from pretending to be Italian to Asian to Native American to a black dude from the South. Does he not realize how ridiculous he is or does he realize and just not care?

Worked 30 years in the industry... worked on 2-3 of Seagal’s films back in the day (as well as stunts with Lebell), Steven was a nut. Stuntmen I knew had horror stories about him. Everything Lambert is saying seems accurate to me based on what I experienced in my Journey through the business in the mid to late 80’s through the 90’s and 2000’s.

@Ben Rocky “Seven Year Storm” which was later changed to “Hard To Kill” - got to watch the set ups of the liquor store sequence with a young Robert LaSardo. I was suppose to stand in and double him in the 1st “Under Siege” but production went to a non union state back east to shoot and wanted to pay me $60.00 A DAY (non union)!!! So I walked off that. Lots of it is a blur cuz this goes back 30 years ago!!! But he (Steven) tried offering SAG (union cards) to me and other people to get us to do stuff... I already had my guild card, didn’t need it, or him. Interesting times

@Ben Rocky oh I recall 2nd unit work (doubling) in Bahamas? Or maybe another gig? Back then I was working every week (from extra work, to stand in and double gigs to stunt doubling). Worked on hundreds of sets yearly from B movies like David Carradine’s “warlords” to “A” films like Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park”. Seagal was in between all the work. When I would work with Henrie Kenji (stunt legend), he’d give me the scoop on Seagal too. Steven was very well known for hitting the stunt guys but did not want to get hit back!! David Carradine was much like this as well but he was an alcoholic on the sets and knew nothing about the martial arts. He faked it all.

@Ben Rocky no never thought about it. Just that he wasn’t normal. I mean when I told him I “didn’t need a SAG card cuz I already had one”, his reply was (slow and deliberate)... almost condescending.. “oh so you’re content.” I told him “yeah, I was.” He really thought he was all that. I use to watch him walk in my gym on Melrose Ave in Beverly Hills (after “Above The Law” came out) and hit the peck machine. Did one set of several reps and then left the gym. That’s it. that was his chest day. Just an odd ball. Talked to me like he was this Holy’er than thou kind of way etc. Made promises to my friends and never kept them, hurt people, prima donna attitude ughhh .... but remember this was 30 years ago. But based on what I experienced - everything people have said about him since fits what I experienced.

@Joez86 Definitely think about it, a NY times bestseller called Dopesick by Beth Macy has my story, I'm the only one who's still alive actually. With a little help I'm writing my own now. Judo, bjj, and boxing have changed my life and I love hearing stories anout Gene from the Seagal incident to the Milo Savage fight.
