Philadelphia is a 1993 drama film. It was one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to acknowledge HIV/AIDS, homosexuality and homophobia. It was written by Ron Nyswaner and directed by Jonathan Demme. The film stars Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. It was inspired by the story of Geoffrey Bowers, an attorney who in 1987 sued the law firm Baker & McKenzie for unfair dismissal in one of the first AIDS discrimination cases.

Plot:
Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer infected with AIDS, is fired from his conservative law firm in fear that they might contract AIDS from him. After Andrew is fired, in a last attempt for peace, he sues his former law firm with the help of a homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller. During the court battle, Miller sees that Beckett is no different than anyone else on the gritty streets of the city of brotherly love, sheds his homophobia and helps Beckett with his case before AIDS overcomes him.

Fantastična drama, jedanput dosad pogledao i oduševio me film.

Uf, svojedobno sam pisao esej iz jednog izbornog predmeta a temeljio se je na ovome filmu te sam imao prilike malo ga bolje proanalizirati. Na kraju mogu reći da film ima svoje snažne trenutke, negdje je pak prejeftino tretirao pojedine likove ali na kraju ako se uzme u obzir doba u kojem je nastao kao i njegova prvotna svrha za koju je rađen, riječ je o uspješnom ostvarenju.
