Iron Man was really a surprise hit this summer and pulled in about a half a billion dollars. We definitely knew it was going to be big but nowhere near as big as it ended up being. So of course after the release sequel talks have been coming out all over. Today the LA Times spoke with Jon Favreau:

I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn't been an formal announcement on the sequel to "Iron Man," he's begun developing it. "We're working on it now," he said, "which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."

Marvel and Paramount have even set a date for the sequel to be released on April 30th, 2010. I'm actually a little surprised to hear that he has began working on Iron Man 2 already. But then again this means the film is not going to be rushed to make its date either. Robert Downey Jr. is already attached as there was a clause in his first contract and Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow are expected to return.

Jon Favreau did a live webcast with the LA Times readers and provided some updates on the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie. Key amongst them is that he is directy involved in the script which they are hammering out and figuring out exactly where the story will go.

He was able to say that the story will focus on the outcome of Tony Stark announcing at the end of the first one that he is Iron Man and the complications that brings into his personal life. Add to that the Mandarin and the 10 Rings which were hinted at in the first one and we are assured a really great villain. Jon also suggested they migh add a female villain angle which will spice things up quite a bit.

We already know that Terrence Howard will don the suit to become War Machine which definitely means there should be alot more action and the sequel could easily pan out to be even better then the first one.

A couple days back we told you all the shocking news that Terrence Howard has been kicked off of Iron Man 2.. or at least he wont be back. He will be replaced by Don Cheadle who will take on the role he was supposed to play of Iron Man. Huge mis-cast if you ask me. The word in the trades was that Terrence Howard wanted to much money so they gave the role to Don.

In a quote from ReelComix that I just read, Terrence Howard is shocked. He knew nothing about being replaced and has read in the trades it was about money and says that apparenty his contract isnt worth the paper its written on. Lets all just hope the trades got it wrong. Terrence is perfect to play War Machine and as talented as Don Cheadle is... he just is the wrong character actor for the role.

Shocking sums this up best. In a news article on ReelComix I discovered that Terrence Howard was indeed not included in Iron Man 2 over money. Not at all un common. The insane part is in reading the article they say that Terrence made more money for Iron Man then Robert Downey Junior did. Ummm are you kidding me? Go give the article a read for the complete low down. Terrence was recently replaced by Don Cheadle as War Machine reportedly over money issues and now there is more weight to that rumor.

Shockingly bad ass news from Variety. Rumor has it that Mickey Rourke is in talks to play the villain in Iron Man 2. Obviously flush with cash after dropping Terrence Howard who reportedly made more money then Downey for Iron Man they can now bring on some real power houses;

“Rourke is in discussions to play a villain described as Tony Stark’s Russian alter ego, a heavily tattooed bruiser who is in the arms trade and battles Iron Man in his own nuclear-powered armored suit.”

Seriously.. can you do better for a Villain? I think not! The speculation is the villain is Crimson Dynamo but its hard to say until things pan out more.

Well it would seem the rumors are true as today the world is a buzz with confirmation that Scarlett Johansson will replace Emily Blunt as Black Widow in the upcoming Iron Man movie and will also be signed on to play the role in other upcoming films related to the Iron Man verse. I have to say this has to really suck for Emily Blunt and I feel kinda let down since I am a big fan of Emily and think she would have rocked in the role.

Nicky at DeadLineHollywood says that Scarlett Johansson did try out for the role but lost to Emily Blunt. Who do you think would or can do the better job as Black Widow between the two?

Superstar Jon Favreau has announced that he will being shooting Iron Man 2 on Monday. The entire cast has arrived and its time for more tin man ass kicking good times!

Iron Man 2 brings back Robert Downey Jr but you will recall Terrence has been kicked to the curb and Mickey Rourke is in as the villain.
