Sledge Hammer! is an American satirical police sitcom produced by New World Television that ran for two seasons on ABC from 1986 to 1988. The series was created by Alan Spencer and stars David Rasche as Inspector Sledge Hammer,[1] a preposterous caricature of the standard "cop on the edge" character. Al Jean and Mike Reiss, best known for their work on The Simpsons and The Critic, wrote for the show and worked as story editors.

Trust me - I know what I'm doing!
That's what I like about you Doreau, you think like a man.

Dori: Sorry to interrupt you, Captain.
Sledge Hammer: Just wanted to cheer you up.
Captain Trunk: That's impossible. This is the worst day of my life.
Sledge Hammer: Now you see right there, you're wrong. You've said many times that the worst day of your life was the day I joined the force.
[Trunk looks at Hammer]
Sledge Hammer: Now you feel better?
Captain Trunk: Yes.
