GRRM comments on N. Ireland
George R. R. Martin has posted on his Not A Blog regarding the press release. He confirms that filming will be in October. He also gives some history on the Paint Hall, including an informative video, and teases that some more "exciting news" about the pilot is on the horizon.
At last it can be told.
The news has finally been made public, so I'm finally free to whoop and holler and share the great news -- the HBO pilot of A GAME OF THRONES will start filming in October, in Northern Ireland. The announcement was made in Belfast. Here you go:
http://www.northernireland.gov.uk/news/ ... o-film.htm
Yes, I'm thrilled. Ireland should be a great place to film. And the facility we'll be using, the Paint Hall, is amazing as well:
http://www.northernirelandscreen.co.uk/page.asp?id=211
Before it was a film studio, the Paint Hall was part of Belfast's famous Harland & Wolff Shipyards, where the TITANIC and many other ships were constructed. The facility is pretty titanic as well. Of course, all of us connected with A GAME OF THRONES are hoping we'll fare somewhat better on our own maiden voyage.
Yes, Parris and I will be going over to Ireland this fall to see at least part of the filming. Not for the whole shoot, alas, I don't have time for that... but we have to be there for at least part of it. Maybe we'll see some of you in a Belfast pub.
There's lots of other exciting news on the pilot as well, but nothing I can share. Sorry, lips are sealed. You'll have to wait for Mr. Benioff and Mr. Weiss... and HBO.

First cast member and director announced
As was rumored a couple months back, Peter Dinklage has been cast as Tyrion in the pilot of Game of Thrones, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Also Tom McCarthy, director of Oscar-nominated film The Visitor and Dinklage's breakout film The Station Agent, has signed on to direct the pilot.
Tom McCarthy has come aboard to direct HBO's fantasy pilot "Game of Thrones," on which the star of his first feature, "The Station Agent's" Peter Dinklage, has been tapped for a key role.
Based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling "Songs of Fire and Ice" novels, "Thrones" is described as an epic struggle for power set in a vast and violent fantasy kingdom. Dinklage will play Tyrion, the Queen's brother who is treated as an outsier because of his size.

Over at Tower of the Hand they've posted a link to an article on AV Club that discusses the seeming trend within the television industry to turn books into TV series. In it they touch on Game of Thrones and evaluate its chances at being a successful television series. Here is what they had to say:
A Song of Ice and Fire (HBO, ordered to pilot): Based on George R.R. Martin’s lengthy, long-delayed epic fantasy series (planned to sprawl over seven books), Song is the potential series that has most excited both book and TV fans, if Internet buzz is any indication. Martin’s series, indeed, seems like a good fit for HBO (the network initially described it as “The Sopranos in Middle-Earth”), and the author, a former TV writer, will be intimately involved in turning the novels into a series. Each book will equal one season of the show, and the first announced bit of casting (Peter Dinklage as Tyrion) seems almost too good to be true. The books are dense but not so dense that their events can’t easily be conveyed in a 12 episode TV season, and the plots are intriguing with well-drawn characters. That said, the big question here is going to be expense. Once the series leaves the rather intimate first novel behind, will it have the ratings to justify the money needed to build the worlds of the later novels? Chances of succeeding: Solid

I've received word, from what looks to be a legit inside source, that Sean Bean has been cast as Eddard Stark in the Game of Thrones pilot. The source mentioned that it happened yesterday but does not know when it might be officially announced.
hmm, moram reci da ga nekak nisam zamisljao kao Ned-a ali mislim da ce biti ockej

It's official. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Sean Bean will be playing Eddard Stark in the Game of Thrones pilot. They also mention that the roles of Jon, Viserys and Joffrey have been cast and that the role of Robert is almost filled.
Sean Bean has nabbed the lead in "Game of Thrones," HBO's adaptation of the George R.R. Martin fantasy-book series. Tom McCarthy is directing; David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who wrote the screenplay, are executive producing.

Jennifer Ehle has been added to the pilot "Game of Thrones."
On "Thrones," HBO's adaptation of the George R.R. Martin fantasy-book series, Ehle will play Catelyn Stark, Ned Stark's (Sean Bean) wife who originally was betrothed to Ned's older brother. When the older brother was killed, she fulfilled her duty by marrying Ned and securing the alliance between their two houses.
drago mi je da ipak nije gillian anderson :p

Ha, dovoljno da joj nabace ful srebrnu kosu i mislim da će biti odlična! Uh, svako malo pratim novosti o toj seriji i postavu glumaca, jedino me malo razočaralo tko će glumiti Roberta...i za neke glumce nema slika iako su imena objavljena..
