A young stranger rides into a remote town somewhere in the Austrian Alps. Having introduced himself as the photographer Mr Greider he becomes the lodger of a widow whose husband and son have suffered an untimely death. As he learns the whole town is firmly under the spell of an aged rich man named Brenner and his six power-drunken sons. One day the widow sends her daughter to town where she is supposed to run some errands and Greider decides to accompany young Luzi. The brethren discover him at her side and command him to drink their schnapps. When he politely refuses, they beat him into compliance.
