Bloody-Disgusting got the scoop this afternoon that Shawn Papazian (Horror High) is attached to helm Warner Raw Feed's Rest Stop 2, with original writer-director John Shiban writing the screenplay this time around. John Shiban, Tony Krantz, Daniel Myrick and Steve Eccelsine are producing the film that shoots October 22 through November 9 in Los Angeles, CA. We're told that The Driver, in this film, we first see him in "human" form as a nice, regular, rural sort of guy. But when he is brutally attacked and mutilated he becomes "The Driver" we met in the first film. So I guess Rest Stop 2 is a quasi-prequel?

Returning Iraqi War veteran TOM HILTS heads off with his girlfriend, MARILYN CULVER, and his best friend, JARED SCHNAUZ, to discover what happened to his brother JESSE and his girlfriend NICOLE, who disappeared a year ago. The terrible truth of what happened to Jesse and Nicole is about to repeat itself, as Tom, Marilyn and Jared run into the same bloodthirsty ghostly creatures--the DRIVER, FATHER and MOTHER--who have been plaguing luckless "sinners" on the Old Highway for decades...

Overall the movie delivers some great punches and although it does try to have an element of mystery and intrigue that is one area where it falls down. Overall it is what it is... a straight to dvd horror movie that will appeal to horror fans and definitely is head and shoulders above most direct to dvd fare. So I have to say that for die hard horror fans this is a must buy, for the rest of us its a rent at best.
