I should say that my issue is NOT his addiction and it is the fact that for me, I got the sense that he has a god-complex and that the book was unapologetic, misogynistic and that he’s trying to impart wisdom when he is still clearly very mad at the world and looking to blame anyone who isn’t himself. His ability to overcome his addiction is commendable and I should definitely have clarified that that isn’t why I’m seeing him differently!

It more so ruined Matthew Perry for me more than anything. Not because of his addiction, he just comes across as a total asshole. I used to have a huge crush on him, but now it’s like ugh why?!

I agree that he definitely comes across as quite selfish and narcissistic.

Unfortunately, yes. He’s sadly pretty unlikable. I know he’s fighting for his life against his addiction but he honestly came off like a jerk.

Has anyone read it and does the tone shift beyond the first 50 pages? So far, it comes off like he's writing with the voice of his false self with no awareness of that and no attempt to delve beyond the obvious "oh yeah I'm one screwed up guy." I don't even know what possessed me to buy this as I'm not a fan of his. I guess I was hoping for something insightful from someone who has been through a lot of ups and downs in life and had unique experiences. Instead, it just seems like a big self-pity-fest and humblebrag, sometimes an outright brag, with a bit of class clown thrown in. He sounds like an arrested adolescent. Like he has to mention his $20 million penthouse and he is constantly complaining about his parents then saying, "oh but my dad is my hero." The timelines don't add up either, it's a bit confusing and makes me skeptical about the accuracy of some of the things he's claiming.

I was surprised to find him so unlikable, honestly. It’s not the addict memoir aspect, it was that he constantly repeated how successful he was or how many millions he made. He said it so many times it started to seem he was trying to convince the reader.

The Keanu thing was a jackass thing to say but I think it was overblown. The way he talks about women, even his colleagues, was the biggest turnoff to me. Still love Chandler but Matthew did not come across well imo.

It wasn't as mind-blowing or shocking as Perry seems to think it is. I listened to the audio book read by him and he comes off as kind of arrogant or falsely self-deprecating. I expected it to be funnier, as well. But I still love the show and the character!

Nisam ga poznao uživo, i neću sudit.Najdraža uloga mi je on i Chris Farley u Almost Heroes, obožavam tu komediju.
